Sir Duncan Rice Library (University of Aberdeen)

The front door is on the ground floor, facing Elphinstone Road, and is step-free. The ground floor is always open to the public and you don’t need to sign in to access the exhibition spaces, Old Aberdeen Library, or cafe. To access the upstairs floors, including floor 2 where our events will be held, you can pick up a special WayWORD Audience pass from our welcome desk or reception.

By train / bus
Sir Duncan Rice Library is in Old Aberdeen. This is a 45 minute walk from the bus station or train station.
By local bus
The Library is serviced by the number 19, which stops in the car park.
It is also accessible via the number 20, which stops at King’s College (North-bound) and Douglas Lane (South-bound). Both stops are within a 5-minutes radius.
Other nearby bus stops include University Road, which is a 10-minutes walk away and serviced by the numbers 1 and 2; and Erskine Street, which is a 20-minutes walk away and serviced by the numbers 17, 18, 23 and 727.

By bike
Bike racks are located near the main entrance to the Library, between Bedford Road and Elphinstone Road.

There is on-street parking on Bedford Road. There are 5 spaces for blue badge holders in the Library carpark, located off Bedford Road, and 6 spaces for blue badge holders in the carpark for Fraser Noble, also on Bedford Road. Parking is reserved for permit holders in the staff carparks between 9 and 5 on weekdays.

The Library is serviced by 4 lifts and a staircase. Every room has step-free access. Genderless toilet cubicles are available on each floor.

The Blue Lamp

The Blue Lamp is serviced by the numbers 11, 11A, 18, 20 (South-bound only), 727 and 220 at Seamount Road.
Other stops within a 5-minutes radius include Bon Accord Centre K2, K4 and K5, which are serviced by the numbers 17 and 19 via St Andrew Street; and St Clair Street, which is serviced by the numbers 20 (North-bound only) and 23 via West North Street. Access from the St Clair Street bus stop is up a stairway to Gallowgate.
The Blue Lamp is also a ten-minute walk from Blackfriars Street, which is serviced by the numbers 12 and 59.

Bike racks are located in the Gallowgate carpark, opposite the venue.

There is on-street parking on Gallowgate.
The Gallowgate Car Park across from the venue is accessible 24/7, and free for blue-badge holders. Parking is free from 8pm.

The event space is on the ground floor. Access to the bathrooms is on the same floor.

The Cowdray Hall (Aberdeen Art Gallery)

The Cowdray Hall is located in the Aberdeen Art Gallery, which is free and open to the public.
During daytime events: The front door is on the ground floor, facing Schoolhill. To access the Cowdray Hall, continue into the central gallery on the ground floor, and walk through the door on the left. Continue straight until you reach the staircase, and the hall will be through the door to the right of the staircase.
For evening events: The door to the left of the main door on Schoolhill will open after 5pm to allow guests entry to the Cowdray Hall for evening events. A member of the team will welcome you in and direct you. To access the Cowdray Hall, continue forward into the remembrance hall and go left into the stairwell. There are seats on the ground floor through the door on your right.

The Art Gallery is a 10-min walk from the Union Square train and bus stations.
By local bus
Many local buses stop on Union Street and the Art Gallery is a short walk along Belmont Street. The closest bus stops are Schoolhill (L2), which is serviced by buses 20 and 19; Blackfriars Street (P2) via bus numbers 10, 10A, 10B, 12, and 59; the Wallace Statue (N1) via bus number 3 (Thistle Line); and Union Terrace Gardens (D2), serviced by bus numbers 35, X35 and 10B.

Aberdeen Art Gallery Seminar Room

Aberdeen Art Gallery is free and open to the public. The front door is on the ground floor, facing Schoolhill. To access the seminar room, continue into the sculpture court on the ground floor, and take the stairs or lift to the 2nd floor. The door to the seminar room is to the left of the cafe.

Science Teaching Hub

The Science Teaching Hub is next to the Sir Duncan Rice Library on the corner of Bedford Road and St Machar Drive. The front door is facing Bedford Road. A member of the team will welcome you in and direct you.

The Science Teaching Hub is serviced by the number 19.

The car park is located to the side of the building between the Science Teaching Hub and the Fraser Noble Building. The car park can be used by permit holders and Blue Badge holders. There is on-street parking on Bedford Road.

A member of the team will come and direct you to the event. There is step-free access throughout the building. There are accessible bathrooms on each floor.

Cruickshank Botanic Garden

Cruickshank Botanic Garden is located in a walled garden space between The Chanonry and Tillydrone Avenue. There are several ways in, including via the zoology building, or the gates on St Machar Drive or The Chanonry. Once in the gardens, follow the path to the formal gardens. Members of the WayWORD Team will be on hand to help you find your way.

Cruickshank Botanic Garden is located in Old Aberdeen is a 45-min walk from the Union Square train and bus stations.

Bike racks are located near to the Cruickshank building, which is within the gardens, or outside of the Zoology Building.

On-street parking is limited but some may be available near the St Machar Cathedral (200m) or on Tillydrone Avenue (500m). At weekends only, parking is available in University car parks on Tillydrone Avenue, outside the Zoology Building (1 on our campus map – Download map ), on Dunbar Street, outside the Taylor Building (21), or outside the MacRobert Building (18). Weekend entry is via the Chanonry entrance.

There may be uneven ground, but there are some level paths and no steps within the gardens. Please include accessibility and mobility requirements when making your booking.

Aberdeen Central Library

Aberdeen Central Library is free and open to the public. The main door is up a flight of steps on Rosemount Viaduct, but you can enter via step free access via the ramps at either side of the building.

By train / bus
The Library is a 10-min walk from the Union Square train and bus stations.

Many local buses stop on Union Street and the Library is a short walk along Union Terrace. The closest bus stops are the Wallace Stop (N3) via bus number 10, 10A, 35, 59, and X20 and Union Terrace Gardens (D2), serviced by bus numbers 35, X35 and 10B, and School Hill, numbers 19 and 20.

The library has multiple levels accessed by stairs. There is step free access to the library, using the ramps to the right to enter the ground level, or the ramp to the left to enter the media centre. There are two lifts servicing upper floors.
